A Sense of Guilt

  shekharagouda       Thursday, October 13, 2022
He used to attend the canteen on the side of the Guilty Consciousness Highway every day without fail, and a stray dog was very fond of him.

As soon as the dog saw him, it ran at full speed and started licking his feet. She would eat the biscuit bread that he was putting and would jump up to his chest and show her love by wagging her tail with satisfaction and gratitude.

The bond between the man and the dog was watched in awe by the people there. Yahkashchit, whom he did not care for, was appreciating that he was not showing so much affection towards a stray dog.

That appreciation encouraged him. Four people saw that he was feeding the dog and petting it
If he was looking at it with eyes of appreciation, gratitude would rise in his heart.

The association of the two became so popular that it was even reported in the local newspaper.
Since he is the center of attraction, he felt that his responsibility has also increased and he also got involved in nurturing the stray dogs around.
He became active in the direction of starting an organization for the same purpose.

Unfortunately one night his beloved dog met with an accident and the road was narrow. Even though it was getting dark, no one had moved the body of the dog.

As soon as he saw his pet dog lying in a pool of blood in the middle of the road, he stopped staring sadly. His inner mind told him to pull him to the ditch on the side of the road. He stood on the side of the road and looked around. People were busily walking in the adjacent shop line. Only the eyes of three or four people sitting near the waterhole and in the cycle shop were staring at him.

A narrow sense of what the onlookers would think if he touched the coat of that dog which no one touched occupied his mind.

The bike started and moved forward. After crossing a kilometer, the guilt began to creep in. He felt that he should have made up his mind and dragged it to the ditch on the side of the road. By the time he got there, a beggar was throwing the bike into the ditch.

The guilt subsided. When the dog was alive, it seemed that what he showed was not genuine humanity, it was only limited to pleasing others.

The dog's death taught us that humanity is not just about saving a life, it is about preserving its dignity even after death.
